SUBJECT:

BIOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT PERTAINING TO SEA TURTLE OCCURRENCES AT PSE&G 1S SALEM GENERATING STATION CIRCULATING WATER INTAKE Due to an increase in the number of sea turtles (Kemp's ridley and loggerhead) impinged on trash bars at Salem, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS),

NOAA has requested that the NRC reinitiate formal consultation pursuant to Section 402.16 of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), Interagency Cooperation regulations.

By letter dated September 8, 1988, Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) requested approval to prepare the biological assessment required by Section 402.12 of the ESA regulations.

Please forward your proposed schedule for preparation of the biological assessment and an outline of the material to be included to the NRC.

Following receipt of this information, we will schedule a meeting to discuss the preparation of the biological assessment.
