Combined Inspection 50-272/87-06 and 50-311/87-11
This refers to the routine resident safety inspection by Mr. T. Kenny and Mrs.
K. Gibson, of this office, on March 24, 1987 to April 20, 1987, at the Salem Nuc-
lear Generating Station, Hancocks Bridge, New* Jersey.
The inspection consisted
of document reviews, interviews, and obs*rvation of activities.
The findings were
discussed with Mr. J. M. Zupko, Jr. of your staff.
Based on the results of this inspection, it appears that one of your activities
was not conducted in full compliance with.NRC requirements, as set forth in the
Notice of Violation, enclosed herewith as Appendix A.
This violation has been
categorized by severity level in accordanc:e with the
11General Statement of Policy
and Procedure for NRC Enforcement Actions,
11 10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C (Enforcement
Policy 1986).
You are required to respond to this letter and in preparing your
response, you should follow the instructions in Appendix A.
This letter also acknowledges receipt of your response dated April 14, 1987, to
the violation cited in Inspection Report 50-272/87-03; 50-311/87-04.
Your response
will be reviewed during a future inspection.
The responses directed by this letter and the accompanying Notice are not
subject to the clearance procedures of the Office of Management and Budget
as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
Your cooperation with us in this matter is appreciated.
