Dear Mr. Varga:

COMPLETION OF NUREG-0737 ITEMS SALEM GENERATING STATION UNITS NO. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-272 AND 50-311 In your letter dated March 2, 1984, you presented the NRC staff's goal for completing technical reviews and implementing Technical Specifications for all NUREG-0737 items, excluding Supplement 1, by September, 1984.

PSE&G interprets this as meaning those items listed in the most recent edition of NUREG 0748 "Operating Reactors Licensing Actions Summary."

For the items currently listed as active in NUREG-0748, Volume 4, No. 1, the status is as follows:

Item II.D.l, RV and SV Testing: PSE&G transmitted its plant specific report on the safety and relief valve test program in a letter dated January 3, 1983. Discharge piping support modifications are scheduled to be completed during the current Unit #1 outage and during the next refueling outage for Unit

  1. 2, except for insulating the loop seal. The vendor cannot supply the insulation until September 1, 1984, at the earliest: however, it can be installed on Unit #1 at some reasonable time during cold shutdown.
