SUMMARY

OF MEETING WITH TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY TO DISCUSS CABLE SEPARATION ISSUES (TAC 00493)

On September 5,

1989, the staff met w'ith the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA or the licensee) at the Browns Ferry site in Decatur, Alabama to discuss the licensee's cable separation submittal dated June 9, 1989.

Enclosure 1 lists the meeting participants.

A list of issues for this meeting was provided to the licensee on August 29, 1989 as the proposed agenda (Enclosure 2).

The 'licensee and the staff discussed all eleven concerns provided in Enclo-sure 2.

Upon completion of discussions on each item, the staff indicated which items would require a formal TVA docketed response.

The licensee com-mitted to provide formal responses to Items I, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 10 of Enclo-suree 2.

The schedule for submittal of these responses wi 11 be provided to the NRC Project Manager (Gerald E. Gears).

The status of the staff's review of other electrical issues was briefly discussed.

For the ampacity program, the staff is awaiting TVA's follow-up letter based upon the July NRC/TVA ampacity meeting.

For the Cable Installation Program review, the staff indicated that TVA needs to consider the recent findings at Watts Bar of damaged cable and determine if these findings affect the Browns Ferry Cable Insta'llation Program results provided to the staff by letter dated June 9, 1989.

The staff has stopped its review of this program pending formal notification of the results of the Browns Ferry assessment of the Watts Bar findings.
