SUMMARY

OF CONFERENCE CALL ON OCTOBER 28, 2017 FIRE SAFETY BACKGROUND The Westinghouse Electric Company, LLC (Westinghouse) submitted a application to renew special nuclear material (SNM) license SNM-1107 (Ref. Error! Reference source not found.).

The application was revised by letter dated September 2017 (Ref. Error! Reference source not found.). The staff at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requested for additional information by letter dated (Ref. Error! Reference source not found.).

Westinghouse responded to the RAIs, both formally by letter dated (Ref. Error! Reference source not found.), and with preliminary responses1. As the chapter of the Safety Evaluation Report about fire safety neared completion, the NRC staff had a few minor aspects to clarify.

Instead of submitting additional RAIs, the NRC staff decided discuss the matter with the licensee.

These standards were either inconsistently mentioned in various parts of the license application or committed to in the last license application and not mentioned in the current application. Several other codes are referenced in the Integrated safety Analysis (ISA) summary, but not in the application. The NRC staff are aware that the ISA summary is not a part of the application, but wants to clearly 1 Preliminary responses has been informally sent to the NRC staff to ensure that the requested information would meet the expectations of the NRC staff.

establish which codes mentioned in the ISA summary are Westinghouse committing to implement.

FOLLOW-UP N. Parr agreed to send C. Ryder an e-mail stating the fire safety codes that Westinghouse would commit to implementing. N. Parr stated that Westinghouse would consider revising the license application to include fire safety codes as such. Specific dates were not given.
