j Carolina Power ter. Light Company (CPRL) hereby submits the information required by paragraph 6.a in Attachment 1 of License NPF-63 which states:

Prior to restart following the first refueling:
a.
The engine base shall be inspected for degenerate microstructure (Widmanstaetten Graphite) and the results submitted to the NRC for evaluation.
The plant-specific information is attached as Failure Analysis Associates Report PA-R-88-03-15, "Metallurgical Evaluation of EDG Bases from the Carolina Power and Light Shearon Harris Nuclear Station," and satisfies the requirement of paragraph 6.a of Attachment 1 to License NPF-63.
The evaluation has shown that the microstructure of both engine bases is acceptable.
Carolina Power R Light has evaluated this transmittal in accordance with the provisions of 10CFR170.12 and determined that an application fee is not required because this submittal is required by the NRC as a license requirement.
