April 2, 1986 NOTE TO:

N.

W. Thomasson, OPE FROM:

E. A. Licitra, NRR

SUBJECT:

STRUCTURAL EVALUATION OF SPRAY POND PIPING FOR PALO VERDE As we have discussed by'phone, the staff had requested the Arizona Nuclear Power Project (ANPP) to provide more detailed information regarding the structural evaluation of the Palo Verde spray pond piping, which ANPP summarized in its submittal of April 3, 1985.

In response to the staff's

request, ANPP provided the information by letter, dated November 6, 1985, which is enclosed.

The staff has now completed its review of the November 6, 1985 submittal, which includes supporting calculations, and finds that the spray pond piping is structurally capable of performing its intended function.

A copy of the staff's safety evaluation is also enclosed.

This completes the record of the staff's evaluation of the MIC issue for the Palo Verde spray ponds.
