Subject:

10CFR50, Appendix R Spurious Actuation Analysis (ANPP-31101)

Dear Mr. Knighton:

Open Items (50-529/85-11-01 and 50-530/85-08-01) from NRC Region V Appendix R

Audit requested an analysis of the differences in safe shutdown equipment cable routing between Units 1 and 2, and between Units 1 and 3.

This is of concern because as long as a Unit 2 or Unit 3 circuit is located within the same fire zone as in Unit 1, the Unit 1 "Outside Control Room Fire Spurious Actuation Study", submitted in the referenced letter, is applicable to the other unit.

Due to design evolution, it is possible that either a circuit will exist in Unit 2 or 3 which does not exist in Unit 1, or that a circuit can be routed through an embedded conduit or different portion of the plant in Unit 2 or 3 than it was in Unit l.

Analyses will be undertaken to identify and evaluate any such circumstances.

The results of the Unit 2 analysis will be submitted to the staff by October 1, 1985.

The Unit 3 analysis results will be submitted prior to Unit 3 fuel load.

Please contact Mr. M. F. Quinn, of my staff, regarding any questions on this matter.
