Dear Dr. Mecredy:
On October 7, 1997, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Generic Letter (GL) 97-04, "Assurance of Net Positive Suction Head for Emergency Core Cooling and Containment Heat Removal Pumps," to all holders of operating licenses or construction permits. The NRC issued GL 97-04 to confirm the adequacy of the net positive suction head available for emergency core cooling (including core spray and decay heat removal) and containment heat removal pumps under all design-basis accident scenarios.
In response to GL 97-04, you provided a letter dated January 6, 1998, for the R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant.
In response to a request for additional information (RAI) dated June 6, 1998, you submitted a letter dated July 21, 1998. These submittais provided the information requested by GL 97-04. The staff has reviewed your responses and has concluded that all requested information has been provided; therefore we consider GL 97-04 closed for your facility.
