SUBJECT:
REQUEST FOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE INTERPRETATION AND RESOLUTION OF REGULATORY GUIDE (RG) 1.97 INSPECTION FINDINGS (AITS # 92-0635 THROUGH 92-0641)
This memorandum transmits seven requests for NRR technical assistance, which are necessary to determine if the items identified in the attached enclosures comply with the appropriate revisi6ns to RG *1.97.

a summary of the known remainfog items that require further review to complete our inspection of RG 1.97.
The ~nclosures and associated attathme~ts*provide specific information *about the conditions o~ licensee position ~nco~ntered during our inspections.
Based upon the gene~ic nature of the items, we have concluded that these items should be reviewed and resplved by NRR.

items were discussed with NRR/SICB during the time of and subsequent to our inspections.. The items needing review fall into five areas:
- 1.
Review and acceptance of isolator type (e.g., use of resistors-as isolators, maximum credible fault isolator test report data),
- 2..
Review and.acceptance of alternate methods (not within the RG requirement) used for the unique identification of control room instrumentation,
- 3.
Resolution of the BWR neutr.on* flux monitoring issue,
. 4.
Redundancy of instrumentation, and
- 5.
Reclassification of a Category 1, Type A variable.*
We request that NRR review and determine the acceptability of licensee positions on the enclosed RG 1.97 compliance issues.
Please note that a number of these issues were identified in inspections many months ago, but we do not view them to be of immediate safety concern; therefore, at NRR request, they were held to the end of the inspection program in order to allow for consistent, generic treatment.
