SUBJECT:
SU!<MARY OF I<ARCH 11, 1982, REMOTE SH)TDtMN PANEL MEETING On Inarch 11, 1982, representatives of the Pennsylvania Power 8 Light Company met with members of the NRC staff to present informationoon the design of the remote shutdown panel and to respond to requested information in NRC letter dated February 1 9, 1982.
A list of attendees is provided in Attachment l.
The applicant described their r emote shutdown panel as a single panel containing only one electrical division.
Controls and indicators used as the alternate means of shutdown to perform each task were identified.
All controls utilized to perform remote shutdown were presented as being safety grade except for the safety relief valves (SRV's).
The automatic depressurization valves (both divisions), which are safety grade, are available at other locations as a redundant.safety grade means of shutdown alternate to the SRV's.
The indication available at the remote shutdown panel was described as providing required redundancy and electrical separation but may not be environmentally or seismically qualified.
The applicant stated that with its current RHR system design and upon transfer of one loop of the RHR system to the remote shutdown panel, automatic injection from either RHR loop is inhibited.
The staff requested that the applicant review the impact of modifying the RHR system for transfer of one loop to the remote shutdown panel without defeating the automatic injection feature of the other loop.
It is the staff's position that the remote shutdown panel indicators should be updated to safety grade on a schedule of implementation consistent with Regulatory guide 1.97, Revision 2.
The applicant needs to commit to this staff position.
The applicant committed to provide an item by item summary of how they have met the staff's position with regard to the design of the remote shutdown panel.
