FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR THE NORTHWEST MEDICAL ISOTOPES, LLC, MEDICAL RADIOISOTOPE PRODUCTION FACILITY CONSTRUCTION PERMIT APPLICATION (CAC NO. MF6135)
Dear Mr. Fowler:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed the final environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Northwest Medical Isotopes, LLC, (NWMI) medical radioisotope production facility construction permit application. Enclosed is a copy of the final EIS. A Notice of Availability (82 FR 22858) was published in the Federal Register on May 18, 2017, advising the public that the final EIS is available at the NRC public document room (PDR) or from the NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html. The accession number for the final EIS is ML17130A862. In addition, the Daniel Boone Regional Library located at 100 West Broadway, Columbia, Missouri 65203, has agreed to make the final EIS available.
As discussed in Chapter 6 of the final EIS, the NRC staffs recommendation, unless safety issues mandate otherwise, is the issuance of the construction permit to NWMI. This recommendation is based on: (1) NWMIs Environmental Report; (2) the NRC staffs consultation with Federal, State, and local agencies, as well as Tribal officials; (3) the NRC staffs independent environmental review; and (4) the NRC staff's consideration of public comments.
A separate Notice of Availability of the final EIS will be placed in the Federal Register by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
