This letter refers to the special
team inspection
led by Mr. H.
W. Kerch of
this office on December
5-15,
1988 at Nine Mile Point Nuclear Plant Unit
1 in
Scriba,
New. York.
Mr. Kerch discussed
the findings of the inspection with
Mr. C. Terry and other
members of your staff at the conclusion of the
inspection.
The purpose of the inspection
was to review the actions
you have taken to
correct previously identified problems in the Nine Mile Point
1 inservice
inspection
program
and to verify that the
new program is being properly
implemented with appropriate
management
controls to prevent recurrence
of
similar problems.
As discussed
in the exit meeting, it is our understanding
that you will submit
a letter to
NRC by the end of January
1989 defining your schedule for long term
corrective actions regarding the'orus
wall corrosion
issue
and stating your
intent to perform torus wall thickness
measurements
approximately every six
months until the long term corrective actions
have
been
implemented.

scope of this inspection,
no violations were identified.
