SUBJECT:
TECHNICAL STAFF SALP INPUT CONCERNING LICENSING ACTIVITIES FOR NINE MILE POINT UNITS I AND 2 (TAC 71842)
On October 6, 1988, NRR Office Letter No. 90?,
"NRR Participation in the SALP Process" was issued.
This letter provided new guidance and directions regarding the level and method of NRR technical review staff participation in the SALP process.
Included was a requirement specifying that, in addition to SALP input being provided with safety evaluations
- inputs, SALP inputs should be provided for NRR activities which do not necessarily result in safety evaluations.
Examples of these activities are on-site inspection activities, reviews of significant safety and technical issues that do not result in a formal safety evaluation, and interactions with the licensee during meetings.
The Nine Mile Point SALP Assessment period for both units ends on February 28, 1989.
Enclosure 1 is a list of significant activities completed during the assessment period (March 1, 1988 through February 28, 1989) for which a SALP input has been determined to be appropriate within the guidance of the office letter.
This list also notes the issues for which an input has been received and the branch that supplied it.
Enclosure 2 contains a list of ongoing activities which have had significant activity during the assessment period and for which a SALP input has also been determined to be appropriate.
Me request a
SALP input be provided by the indicated branch for each of the issues indicated on either of the enclosures (unless the enclosure indicates that a
SALP input has already been provided for that issue from that branch).
The inputs should be provided to Robert A. Capra, Director, Project or=of 8901260290 S90124 PDR ADOCK 05000220 o
