A routine radiological controls inspection
was conducted
by Mr.
R.
L. Nimitz of
this office on February
15-19,
1988, at the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station,
Units
1 and 2.
The findings of the inspection
were discussed
with
Mr. T. J.
Perkins.
The inspection of Unit
1 and
2 covered:
previous findings, radiological
controls for the Unit
1 outage
and routine radiological controls at Unit 2.
One violation of NRC requirements
i'n the area of respiratory protection
equipment
procedure
establishment
was identified.
You are required to
respond to this violation and should follow the instructions in Appendix A,
Our inspector also identified
a
number of weaknesses
in the radiological
controls program at Unit 1. These
program weaknesses
are described
in the en-
closed inspection report.
Collectively, these
weaknesses
indicate
a need for
improved supervision of ongoing work activities
and improved personnel
sensi-
tivity to maintaining radiation exposure
