REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONCERNING THE FIRST 10-YEAR INTERVAL INSERVICE INSPECTION PROGRAM FOR NINE MILE POINT, UNIT 2 (TAC 66071)

The NRC staff and its consultant (EGSG, Idaho) have evaluated your First Ten-Year Interval Inservice Inspection (ISI) Program for Nine Mile Point, Unit 2 submitted July 30, 1987.

Before we can complete our review, additional information as identified in the enclosure is required.

In order to complete our review in a timely manner we request you provide the response to the enclosed request within 60 days of receipt of this letter.

This portion of our review of your ISI Program does not include Section III, "Pump and Valve Inservice Testing (IWP, IWV)," submitted with your July 30, 1987 letter or the changes to your Preservice Inspection Program submitted July 29, 1987.

For the pipe-to-sweepolet welds included in Request for Relief No.

RR-IWB-6, provide further justification to support the determination of impracticality.

Discuss the attempts that have been made to examine the pipe-to-sweepolet welds from the sweepolet side (e.g.,

access for the examination, sizes of search units used, etc.).

B.

For the 134 RDS system integral attachment welds included in Request for Relief No. RR-IWC-4, discuss the limitations with regard to performing liquid penetrant examinations instead of magnetic particle examinations in order to meet the Code requirements.
