.Grace IE, for Nine Mile Point unit z ACRS (16)

During the process of the review of documentation submitted in the instrumentation and controls area for Nine Mile Point Unit 2 (NMP-2) a number of discrepancies and items that need clarification to determine if they are discrepancies have been noted.

These concerns were identified to your staff by telephone calls in November 1983 and during meetings on January 18,

1984, and February 7 and 8, 1984.

A copy of the summary from those meetings is enclosed.

The concerns and some of the actions to be taken by NMPC are identified in the summary.

As noted, it was requested during the January 18, 1984, meeting that NMPC perform a review of the documentation submitted in the instrumentation and

, control area and confirm by letter that the documentation submitted reflects the actual plant design.

If, in fact, changes needed in the documentation are required in order for the documentation to reflect the design, marked-up or revised copies of the documentation should be included with the letter and a

confirmation that the documentation submitted previously as supplemented by the documents included by the letter, reflects the actual plant design.

Documentation provided by the letter should be submitted shortly afterwards as an amendment to the FSAR.

Major changes expected in the future should be identified in the letter.

Any changes, major or minor, should be submitted as amendments to the FSAR in a timely manner.

In order to facilitate the review of the instrumentation and controls area for NMP-2 and to meet our licensing schedule, the letter discussed above should be submitted no later than 60 days following the receipt of this letter.

If you have any questions concerning the above, please contact the licensing project manager, Mary Haughey, at (301) 492-7897.
