In essence,;you con-cluded that the two minor cracks found dfd not warrant corrective action at this time.

We have reviewed your evaluation of the sparger inspection and concur fn your findings, i.e., operation of Nine Mile Point for another fuel cycle will not endanger'public health and safety.

The basis for this approval fs descrfbed fn the enclosed Safety Evaluation.

As you know,-the reliability of the Core Spray System has been questioned fn several other areas, the most salient being spray coverage fn a steam environment.

During a meeting fn Bethesda on April 15, 1981 this question of nozzle coverage was discussed.

By letter dated Hay 22, 1981 you indicated that a program which resolves 'this generic issue would be submitted fn September 1981.
