Mr. Bryan C. Hanson Senior Vice President UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 January 27, 2017 Exelon Generation Company, LLC President and Chief Nuclear Officer (CNO)

SUBJECT:
CLINTON POWER STATION, UNIT NO. 1 -ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF REQUEST TO RESUME LICENSING ACTIONS
Dear Mr. Hanson:
By letter dated August 11, 2016 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML16224A262), Exelon Generation Company, LLC (the licensee, Exelon) requested the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to temporarily suspend review of two ongoing license amendment reviews for Clinton Power Station (CPS). On November 1, 2016 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16306A119), Exelon requested an extension of the time for Exelon to make a determination whether to withdraw the requests given the likelihood that the unit will cease operations by June 2017. The two license amendment requests (LARs) were submitted to the NRC by letters dated January 25 and April 4, 2016 (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML16025A182 and ML16095A285, respectively). This was due to the June 20, 2016 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16172A137), notification by Exelon of its intent to cease permanent operations at CPS on June 1, 2017.
By letters dated October 3, and November 14, 2016 (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML16238A250 and ML16315A257, respectively), the NRC staff acknowledged the licensee's requests to suspend the ongoing licensing reviews for the two amendment requests.
Subsequently, by letter dated December 14, 2016 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16349A314),
Exelon withdrew its "Certification of Permanent Cessation of Operations." As a result, by letter dated December 15, 2016 (ADAMS Accession No. ML16350A188), Exelon requested the NRC staff to resume review of the two LARs.
The NRC staff acknowledges the request to resume review of the suspended LARs. Continued review of the LARs submitted to the NRC by letters dated January 25 and April 4, 2016, commenced upon receipt of the request dated December 15, 2016.
