LONG TERM SEISMIC PROGRAM -
REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION As a part or our ongoing interactive review of the Long Term Seismic Program (LTSP) for the Diablo Canyon Plant, one of the areas we intend to review and evaluate in detail are the electric power system and a mechanical system support event trees as pertaining to the Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA).
The review and evaluation will focus on modeling and assumptions, logic structure, dependence, relation between selected initiating events and support system availability, treatment of common mode failure, data, test and maintenance, and partial validation of support state quantification.
In order to achieve these objectives, we need the additional information identified in the attached enclosure.
Please provide this information by March 2, 1987.
The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements of this letter affect fewer than ten respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under PL 96-511.

ENCLOSURE DIABLO CANYON NUCLEAR POWER PLANT LONG TERM SEISMIC PROGRAM (LTSP)
REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The staff and its consultants, Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) as a part of their ongoing review of the LTSP Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) study, plan to review and evaluate in detail the electric power (EP) event tree and the mechanical system event tree which feed into frontline system event trees.
(Refer to the attached transparencies presented at August 19-21, 1986 meeting and included in the staff meeting summary dated December 18, 1986).
In order to perform our review, please provide the fo1lowing information for the above two support system models.
1.
Sufficient documentation of the support state model is needed for the review.
This includes definitions of the support states, basis for development, and descriptions of the approach/methodology employed.
The scope and depth of the documentation to be supplied should be analogous to that supplied in the Midland PRA {Letter from J.
M. Cook, Consumers Power Company to H.
R. Denton, NRC, May 7, I984).
2.
The Boolean expression (fault trees) and associated data base that determine the quantification of the support system states is requested.
3.
In order to understand the plant-specific support systems and their interaction with the front line systems, provide the plant system descriptions for each of the modelled support systems.
4.
Provide a description of the important oper'ator actions that have been identified/utilized in the study including a listing and description of procedures used to implement these actions and any training material associated with such action and the resultant quantification.
