Dear Mr. Tucker:
SUBJECT:
GENERIC LETTER 83-28: REACTOR TRIP SYSTEM RELIABILITY (PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE AND SURVEILLANCE PROGRAM FOR REACTOR TIP BREAKERS), ITEMS 4.2.1 AND 4.2.2 Re:
Oconee Nuclear Station, Units 1, 2 and 3 We have reviewed your November 4, 1983 letter responding to Generic Letter 83-28, "Required Actions Based on Generic Implications of Salem ATWS Events." We have also reviewed the supplemental information in your February 21 and March 29, 1985 letters.
Item 4.2.1 requires licensees to have a planned program of periodic maintenance, including lubrication, housekeeping, and other items recommended by the equipment supplier. Item 4.2.2 requires licensees to describe a program for trending of parameters affecting operation and measured during testing to forecast degradation of operability.
With assistance from our consultant, Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, we have completed the technical review of your responses to Items 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 of Generic Letter 83-28 and find them acceptable. The details of our evaluation are contained in the enclosed Safety Evaluation.
Sincerely, John F. Stolz, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #4 Division of Licensing
