Dear Mr. Tucker:

SUBJECT:

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - PROPOSED AMENDMENT ON PENETRATION 22 (TACS 63553/63554/63555)

RE:

Oconee Nuclear Station - Units 1, 2, and 3 We have reviewed your October 13, 1986 application which would revise the technical specification to require a type C local leak test for penetration

-N6,. 22, low pressure service water from the reactor coolant pump motors arid lube oil coolers outlet. To complete our review, we need information on the following two areas of Table 4.4-1:

1. Clarify why for type A tests this penetration is not vented; and
2. Clarify why footnote 9 which allows reverse direction testing is appropriate for this penetration.

If, during your review, you find that Table 4.4-1 is incorrect, please submit a new page with appropriate justifications. We request that you respond to this request for additional information within 45 days of the date of this letter.

The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements contained in this letter affect fewer than ten respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511.

Sincerely, Original Signed By:

Helen N. Pastis, Project Manager Project Directorate 11-3 Division of Reactor Projects, I/II cc:
