NRC letter to Entergy, "Indian Point Nuclear Generating Unit No. 2 -

Supplemental Information Needed for Acceptance of Requested Licensing Action Re: Spent Fuel Pool Criticality Analysis," dated January 21, 2015

Dear Sir or Madam:

By letter dated November 13, 2014 (Reference 1), Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. submitted to the NRC copies of the Proprietary and Non-Proprietary versions of the NETCO document "Criticality Safety Analysis of the Indian Point Unit 2 Spent Fuel Pool with Credit for Inserted Neutron Absorber Panels." The criticality safety analysis, NET-300067-01 had been submitted for NRC review and approval prior to a future license amendment request (LAR).

On January 16, 2015, a telephone conference call between the NRC staff and representatives for Entergy was held. In accordance with LIC-109, the staff's reviewers performed an acceptance review of NET-300067-01 and identified concerns regarding the depletion code validation methodology used in the criticality safety analysis. Furthermore, the "Extended ISG-8" approach was not consistent with the guidance provided in DSS-ISG-2010-01 regarding depletion code validation. The NRC documented their acceptance review concerns in a letter to Entergy dated January 21, 2015 (Reference 2).

NL-15-013 Docket No. 50-247 Page 2 of 2 Based upon the above, Entergy has determined that it will revise and re-submit the criticality safety analysis for NRC's review and approval. The revised criticality safety analysis will address the NRC's concerns regarding the depletion code validation methodology and will be provided no later than March 4, 2015.

There is a new commitment being made by Entergy in this submittal which is identified in the attachment to this letter.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact Mr. Robert W. Walpole, Regulatory Assurance Manager at (914) 254-6710.

I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.
