Revision 2511/26/14 KPS USAR 7.8-1 7.8 PLANT PROCESS COMPUTER SYSTEM 7.8.1 General The Plant Process Computer System (PPCS) is a centralized information system capable of providing continuous monitoring of plant processes, archiving plant process data, and providing operational information to plant staff in the form of alarms, trends, logs and support functions.
The PPCS functions to supplement the plant instrument systems by providing a convenient means of presenting pertinent data and specific performance parameters to the Control Room Operators and station staff in support of plant operations.
7.8.2 Design Bases The PPCS is designated as non-safety-related. Basic to the design of the PPCS is the requirement that the conventional plant instrumentation systems and control functions permit operation of the plant with the PPCS out of service.
There are no requirements for seismic qualification of the hardware; however, the hardware mountings in the Control Room are seismically qualified. The PPCS is not required to operate after a tornado, earthquake, natural disaster, or design basis accident.
The PPCS is designed to collect data from plant sensors through I/O cabinets and other serial devices and display the data in various groupings for operator evaluation. Specific display devices are available in the Control Room, Technical Support Center (TSC), and the off-site Emergency Operations Facility (EOF). The PPCS fulfills the requirements of NUREG-0737 and NUREG-0696.
7.8.3 System Hardware The PPCS is hosted on a pair of redundant servers located in the TSC Computer Room.
Either server may be designated as Active, while the other is designated as Standby. Under normal conditions both servers monitor all data with the one designated as Active executing all requested functions. If a failure of the Active server is detected, the Standby server initiates a failover to become the Active server.
The Plant Server System (PSS), also located in the TSC Computer Room, is a system provided to make data generated on the PPCS available to users on the plant and corporate LANs.
Two additional servers are provided for the PPCS computers in the KPS simulator facility.
7.8.4 System Software The PPCS provides networked servers and display workstations.
The software on the PPCS supports all functions required for database (text and graphics) generation, building, and editing; system operations; system software debugging; and I/O
Revision 2511/26/14 KPS USAR 7.8-2 handling. In addition, each server can perform background functions without affecting real-time system operations.
7.8.5 Deleted 7.8.6 PPCS Interfaces 7.8.6.1 Emergency Response Data System (ERDS)
The purpose of the ERDS link is to transmit the values of key plant parameters to the NRC during and after declared emergencies at the Alert or higher level.
7.8.6.2 Deleted 7.8.6.3 Sequential Events Recorders (SER)/Annunciator System The SER/Annunciator System Interface Application supports data transfer from the Sequential Events Recorders (SER) to the PPCS. Data from both SERs is sent to the PPCS simultaneously for the purpose of data comparison between the two trains.
