Animal was recovered by the staff at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Facility who contacted MMSC. The animal was alive but lethargic when it was picked up by MMSC Staff, The turtle was taken to MMSC for rehab. Once at MMSC the turtle was slightly more active and was able to swim easily on its own. It had several scars on its head, flippers and carapace along with numerous barnacles and some algae growth. There were no noticable recent wounds.

The animal was found dead in its pen early the following morning. Necropsy report to follow.

Cause of death could not be determined. While there was evidence of a prior injury to the head, there was no evidence of any recent trauma or obvious infection and the wounds had healed and all that remained was scar tissue. Although the animal had been eating, based on the findings of the internal exam there was evidence of some long term illness.
