PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION January 21, 2014 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE - PNO-III-14-001 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. Some of the information may not yet be fully verified or evaluated by the Region III staff.

MONTICELLO SHUTDOWN DUE TO RCS PRESSURE BOUNDARY LEAKAGE IN EXCESS OF TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION LIMITS On January 17, 2014, Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant commenced an unplanned shutdown
after identifying a possible leak from the Reactor Coolant System in excess of plant Technical Specification limits.
The NRC Resident Inspectors were immediately not ified and monitored the reactor shutdown. The NRC will continue to monitor the licensee's activities to address this issue.
There has been no indication of a radioactive release from the Monticello plant from this event, and no significant issues were identified by the licensee or the NRC resident inspectors associated with the shutdown.
This preliminary notification is issued for information only and no further action by the staff is anticipated.
Region III received initial notification of this occurrence by the NRC Resident inspectors on site who were observing licensee activities related to the potential leakage. The information presented herein has been discussed with the licensee, and is current as of 1:00 p.m. CDT, on January 21, 2014.
