October 13, 1982 Docket No. 50-206 LICENSEE: SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON COMPANY FACILITY:
San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit No. 1
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF OCTOBER 1, 1982 MEETING On October 1, 1982, members of the NRC staff met with representatives of Southern California Edison Company in Bethesda, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the scope of the seismic reevaluation pro gram for San Onofre Unit No. 1. Enclosure 1 is a list of attendees.
The licensee's representatives discussed the items listed in Enclosure 2.
With regard to the postulated seismic=induced failure of the intake and discharge conduits from the Pacific Ocean to the intake structure, the licensee stated that only 4% of total flow is needed (for RHR heat sink) and that it is felt that there should be no problem with total plugging.
SCE sees no need to do a reanalysis for this portion of the intake. SCE representatives stated that any of the structures for which less than expected backfill compaction has been found will be addressed in their reanalysis.
The NRC staff indicated that the following items need additional discussion and resolution:
- 1. Vent stack
- 2. Electrical equipment and instrument support and load path
- 3. Seismic anchor movements on piping
- 4. Mechanical equipment operability Original signed by Walter A. Paalson, Project Manager Operating Reactors Branch #5 Division of Licensing
