November 17, 1980 NANCY L. HICKMAN Treasurer-Secretary Mr. Harold R. Denton Director, NRR U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Mr. Denton:

The SEP Owners Group wishes to thank you for the oppor tunity of meeting with you, members of your staff, and Mr. W.J.

Dircks on November 3, 1980.

The presentation by Mr. Tom Tipton of JCP&L contained examples of work performed by some of the licensees, such as Consumers Power & JCP&L, since the beginning of SEP.

After the meeting.the Owners Group decided that a more complete summary of SEP efforts completed and committed by other Owners would be useful in your evaluation of SEP progress. En closure 1 provides that information. For the SEP plants included in this summary the costs for hardware mods to date exceed $8.5 million. $8 million more have been expended for studies and analyses. Commitments at these same plants exceed $25 million for hardware and $9 million for analyses. These dollar figures do not include the day-to-day efforts of the licensees in order for SEP to move forward. The SEP Owners Group feels that this information will provide you with a better understanding of the efforts undertaken by the licensees toward an orderly and timely completion of SEP.

cerely, Richard E. Sch fstall Executive Director SEP Owners Group enc.
