HEAVY LOAD HANDLING, SAN ONOFRE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNIT NO. 1 (TAC NO. 69586)
By letter dated November 10, 1988, you discussed your plans for using the turbine gantry crane in locations outside the seismic design of the turbine building. By issuance of Amendment No. 116 to Provisional Operating License No. DPR-13 (NRC letter dated December 2, 1988), we approved your use of the turbine gantry crane in such a manner, specifically for fuel transshipment purposes, and we stated that we would review your proposed use of the turbine gantry crane for purposes other than for fuel transshipment as a separate matter.
Based on recent discussions with Mr. Ornelas of your staff, it is our current understanding that you will request NRC approval on a case-by-case basis for use of the turbine gantry grane in a manner which has not been previously reviewed and approved by the NRC. Therefore, we are discontinuing our review associated with your letter dated November 10, 1988.
Please contact us if our understanding regarding this matter is not correct.
