San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Unit No. 1 Enclosed for your information is a copy of a Notice of Environmental Assess ment and Finding of No Significant Impact. The notice relates to your request dated July 30, 1987 for an exemption from Section III.G.3 of Appendix R to 10 CFR 50, "Fire Protection Program for Nuclear Power Facilities Operating Prior to January 1, 1979."

Specifically, the exemption request involves the pipe tunnel which is not protected by a fixed fire suppression system.

The Notice has been sent to Office of the Federal Register for publication.
