No: IV-13-013 May 6, 2013 CONTACT: Victor Dricks (817) 200-1128 Lara Uselding (817) 200-1519 NRC to Hold Public Meeting to Discuss Results of Inspection at Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting on May 17 to discuss the results of an inspection conducted at the Fort Calhoun nuclear plant to assess the status of Omaha Public Power Districts actions required to restart the plant. The plant, located 19 miles north of Omaha, is owned and operated by OPPD.

The meeting will be held from 1-5 p.m. CDT at the Comfort Inn & Suites, 7007 Grover St.,

Omaha, Neb. This meeting is one of a series the NRC is holding to keep the public informed about OPPDs effort to address performance issues. No restart decision will be made at the meeting.

NRC issued a Confirmatory Action Letter in June 2012 with a list of NRC-developed action items known as the restart checklist. It was updated in February 2013 to include actions to address safety system functional failures, containment internal structure issues, and containment penetration issues. The 15-member team inspected the licensees progress in addressing items on the restart checklist.

Following NRC and OPPD presentations, the public will have opportunities to ask the NRC questions about Fort Calhoun and the regulators oversight activities.

The NRC will issue a written report on the results of the inspection within 45 days of the public meeting.
