RE: ME7727 Reactor Vessel Internals Inspection Plan Review - draft record of conference call on 6/25/2012 The NRC staff reviewed the comments in the email of Monday, June 25, 2012, 4:11 PM below the list of attendees and provided the following interpretation of the conversation that took place:
Regarding Guide Tube Split Pins [Item LAI-3 (page 6 of the December 11, 2011, submittal)], the staff enquired whether these pins are categorized as ASME Section XI, Code Item under the current licensing basis. Our response was that they are not so categorized.
As a follow-up, the staff enquired what, if any, inspections of these split pins (which were replaced in 2004) are planned.
After we described our elective inspection activities that can provide information on the condition of the guide tube split pins, the NRC staff suggested that, as one way to convey the information to the NRC staff in lieu of a follow-up RAI, we could supplement our RAI response to the inspection plan submittal with a description of any inspections that we plan on performing of the guide tube split pins, including a discussion of conformance to the NRC safety evaluation of MRP-227 for this item.
To emphasize the recollection of the NRC staff, black font shows essentially the wording retained from your paragraphs below. Red font shows changes to the text that clarify the intended meaning of the discussion.
Please confirm whether this wording in italics is clear. The essence of the difference is that a supplement to the RAI response was a suggested means to convey information. If mutually understood, I will make the italics text part of the record.

Our response was that they are not so categorized.
As a follow-up, the staff enquired what, if any, inspections of these split pins (which were replaced in 2004) are planned.
Our understanding from the call is that the staff (Al Hiser) requests that we supplement our RAI response to the inspection plan submittal with a description of any inspections that we plan on performing of the guide tube split pins, including a discussion of conformance to the NRC safety evaluation of MRP-227 for this item.
Please confirm the accuracy of our understanding and we can provide the requested supplement accordingly (as discussed during the call).
