Subject:

Revised Commitment Date for Updated Loss of Coolant Accident Analysis for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, Units 2 and 3

References:

1. TVA Letter to NRC, "10 CFR 50.46 30-Day and Annual Report for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, Units 2 and 3," dated April 18, 2012
2. Technical Specification Change TS-429 - Deletion of Low Pressure Coolant Injection Motor-Generator Sets for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, Units 2 and 3, dated February 25, 2011 By letter dated April 18, 2012 (Reference 1), the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) committed to submit the updated Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (BFN), Units 2 and 3, Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) Analysis for NRC review and approval, by June 30, 2012.

TVA now intends to submit the updated LOCA analysis as a supplement to license amendment request (LAR) TS-429 (Reference 2) by July 30, 2012. This is a revision to the commitment date provided in Reference 1. The revised LOCA analysis was created to address issues with the applicability of the EXEM BWR-2000 LOCA methodology identified during the NRC acceptance review of the BFN, Unit 1, ATRIUMTM-10 fuel transition License Amendment Request. TVA will continue to treat this issue as a degraded/ nonconforming condition for BFN, Units 2 and 3, until it is resolved by NRC approval of the revised LOCA analysis. This revised commitment date was discussed with the NRC Project Manager for BFN on June 28, 2012.
