DONALD C. COOK NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 - REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE APPLICATION FOR AMENDMENT TO TRANSITION THE FIRE PROTECTION PROGRAM TO NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION STANDARD 805 (TAC NOS. ME6629 AND ME6630)

Dear Mr. Weber:

By letter dated July 1, 2011 (Accession No. ML11188A145), Indiana Michigan Power Company submitted an application for license amendment to transition the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2, fire protection program, from Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR),

Section 50.48(b), to 10 CFR 50.48(c), National Fire Protection Association Standard (NFPA) 805.

The NRC staff has reviewed the subject submittal and determined that additional information is needed to complete the review, as described in Enclosure 1, Request for Additional Information (RAI). The NRC staff had discussed the RAI in draft form with your staff on January 10,2012, during which participants agreed to revise certain draft questions; revised questions are identified by revision bars on the right side, indicating the areas of change. Participants also agreed to the following schedule for you to formally submit your response: 180 days from the date of this letter for questions RAI-14, -20, -29, -31, and -34, and 90 days from the date of this letter for all the other questions.

Please note that the NRC staffs review efforts are continuing and additional RAls may be forthcoming.

The questions in Enclosure 1 are based on the July 1 , 2011, submittal which contains publicly available as well as security-related (non-publicly available) information. Thus, Enclosure 1 will be withheld from public disclosure. In consultation with Mr. Joe Waters of your staff, we have prepared Enclosure 2, a redacted version of Enclosure 1, having deleted security-related information identified by Mr. Waters; Enclosure 2 will be publicly available after you have a chance to verify that the redaction has correctly deleted all security-related information.
