DATE: September 12-13, 2011 ORGANIZATION: Oconee Nuclear Power Plant Site Visit SUBJECT MATTER:
Commissioner Apostolakis would like to visit Oconee. The Commissioner would like to tour the plant, including the standby shutdown facility and the Keowee Dam as well as the upstream Jocassee Dam. His main interest is the protection of the plant from flooding, especially in light of the insights regarding flooding from the Fukushima Dai-ichi accident and the recent concern over a potential dam failure at Oconee. The Commissioner would also like Ben Beasley, RES Chief of the Operating Experience and Generic Issues Branch, to accompany him on the visit, due to Ben's familiarity with the potential Generic Issue on flooding following upstream dam failures.
