SUBJECT:

ACCEPTANCE REVIEW OF RENEWAL APPLICATION TO SPECIAL NUCLEAR MATERIALS LICENSE NO. 2505 FOR THE CALVERT CLIFFS SITE SPECIFIC INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION (TAC NO. L24475)

Dear Mr. Gellrich:

By letter dated September 17, 2010, as supplemented February 10, 2011, Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant (CCNPP), LLC, submitted a license renewal application to the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the CCNPP site-specific Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI). Your license renewal application was accompanied by an exemption request to extend the license renewal period to 40 years. On February 16, 2011, (76 FR 8872) the revised 10 CFR 72.230(b) rule was published changing the renewal term to a period not to exceed 40 years to be effective May 17, 2011. The exemption request is no longer required. This letter is to inform you that your application meets the requirements of 10 CFR 72.42(c) for timely renewal and contains the necessary information for the NRC staff to begin its review.

For your information, I am attaching a draft copy of the Notice of Docketing, Notice of Proposed Action, and Notice of Opportunity for a Hearing for the 10 CFR Part 72 Materials License renewal application. Please reference Docket No. 72-8 and TAC No. L24475 in future correspondence related to this licensing action. If you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 492-3325.

Sincerely,

/RA/
