RE: NMP2 - Div 3 DG CT extension Rich:

As we discussed, the following information is provided to respond to the staffs requests:

1. EDG reliability for the current 24-month period, through 12/31/2010, is:

Division 1 EDG - 99.7%

Division 2 EDG - 99.4%

Division 3 EDG - 99.1%

2. There have been no failures to start for any of the 3 EDGs in the last 24 months, through 12/31/2010.
3. There have been no maintenance rule functional failures (MRFF) for any of the 3 EDGs in the last 24 months, through 12/31/2010.

Note that the above information is an update to the data that was provided in the March 30, 2010 NMPNS submittal letter (Section 3.3 of the Enclosure). That submittal identified that there was one (1)

MRFF of the Division 1 EDG over the last 100 demands. That MRFF occurred more that 24 months ago.

Please let me know if the staff has any questions regarding the above information or wishes to discuss.

NMP2 - Div 3 DG CT extension

Dennis, The tech staff would like to have a conference call w/the appropriate folks from NMPNS to discuss the clarification questions below in support of their review of the subject LAR:

The NRC staff understands that the licensee monitors EDG reliability and availability, and periodically evaluates EDG reliability in relationship to the Maintenance Rule to ensure that its outage times do not degrade operational safety over time. From this perspective, the staff would like to know the following:

1. NMP2 EDG target reliability is 97.5%. What is the EDG reliability for the current cycle (24 month)?
2. Has there been any failures to start of the EDGs on multiple demands in the past 24 month cycle?
3. Has there been any functional failures of the DG 1 and 2 in the past 24 month cycle?

How about Tuesday or Wednesday next week?

Thanks, Rich
