Curt, The purpose of this email is to forward the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions (NRC) requests for additional information related to your letter dated July 8, 2010. In your letter Carolina Power & Light Company, now doing business as Progress Energy Carolinas, Inc.,

requested an extension of enforcement discretion related to your intent to adopt National Fire Protection Association Standard 805, Performance-Based Standard for Fire Protection for Light Water Reactor Electric Generating Plants, 2001 Edition. Your letter stated a request to extend enforcement discretion to August 12, 2010, for reasons including pilot plant delays and resource challenges.

The draft NRC staff questions related to this request were forwarded to you electronically on August 16, 2010. From our previous conversations, it is the NRC staffs understanding that you will respond to these questions by September 3, 2010. The NRC staffs questions are listed below.
