SUMMARY
OF THE JULY 29, 2010, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE DAVIS-BESSE NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT 1, END-OF-CYCLE PLANT PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On July 29, 2010, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Davis-Besse Energy Education Center in Oak Harbor, OH. The meeting was between NRC Region III management and FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company management to discuss the NRC=s assessment of the safety performance of Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit 1, for the period from January 1 through December 31, 2009. The meeting notice and NRC presentation can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML101940243 and ML102150111, respectively. A list of principal NRC and licensee meeting participants can be found in the Enclosure.
The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRC=s Reactor Oversight Program (ROP), national ROP results, and the Action Matrix in general. This was followed by a discussion of the NRC=s assessment of the performance of Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit 1, in calendar year 2009, which was documented in the March 4, 2009, end-of-cycle assessment letter, as ML100610239. As part of this regulatory performance meeting, FirstEnergy briefly responded to the NRC=s assessment. The FirstEnergy presentation can be found in ADAMS as ML102150118. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials.
