SUBJECT:

PRE-APPLICATION MEETING WITH MAINE YANKEE TO DISCUSS PROPOSED SECURITY FENCE RELOCATIONS AT THE MAINE YANKEE INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION. (TAC NO. L24402)

Dear Mr. Connell:

On January 27, 2010, Maine Yankee (MY) provided a presentation to allow the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff to provide feedback on a proposed security fence modification at the MY Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation to be performed under 10 CFR 50.54. The NRC staff has reviewed the proposed modification and has determined that it does not decrease the safeguards effectiveness of the physical security plan and therefore meets the requirements of 10 CFR 50.54(p)(2).

If you have any questions regarding this matter, I may be reached at 301-492-3325.

Sincerely,

/RA/

John M. Goshen, P. E., Project Manager Licensing Branch Division of Spent Fuel Storage and Transportation Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards Docket Nos.: 50-309, 72-30 TAC No.: L24402
