SUBJECT:
Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 1 Docket No. 50-315 Withdrawal of Third and Fourth Ten-Year Interval Relief Request ISIR-31 Inservice Inspection Program
Reference:
Letter from Raymond A. Hruby, Indiana Michigan Power Company, to Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk, "Third and Fourth Ten-Year Interval Inservice Inspection Program Relief Request ISIR-31," AEP-NRC-2009-52, dated August 21, 2009 (ML092450590).
Dear Sir or Madam:
The referenced letter transmitted a relief request by Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M) for visual examination during system leakage test of the pressurizer surge nozzle as an alternative to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section XI, Table IWB-2500-1 volumetric examination requirement or the enhanced visual. examination requirement of 10 CFR 50.55a(b)(2)(xxi), which may be performed instead of an ultrasonic examination. The alternative was proposed. to reduce personnel radiation exposure. during the upcoming outage.
While preparing a response to a request for additional information from the' Nuclear Regulatory Commission, a subsequent review of upcoming outage activities in the vicinity of the' pressurizer surge nozzle determined that the reduction in personnel radiation exposure will not be realized.
I&M is therefore withdrawing the relief request as it is no longer needed at this time.
There are no new or revised commitments in this letter. Should you have'any questions, please contact Mr. James M. Petro, Jr., Regulatory Affairs Manager, at (269) 466-2489.-
