This e-mail is in reference to Indian Michigan Power Company's (I&M, the licensee) submittal of Relief Request ISIR-31 for an alternative to the examination requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, Table IWB-2500-1, Examination Category B-D, Item No. B3.120, volumetric examinations for the pressurizer nozzle inner radius region.
The NRC technical staff in the Piping and NDE Branch (CPNB) of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) has reviewed I&M's submittal and developed requests for additional information (RAI). The draft RAIs are provided as an attachment to this e-mail.
The NRC staff can discuss the draft RAIs with you in a conference call or meeting. Among other things, the discussion may include how the NRC would formally issue these questions and how the licensee will respond to them.
The sole purpose of this e-mail and its attachment is to prepare you and others for the proposed conference call or meeting. This e-mail and its attachment do not convey a formal NRC staff position, and do not formally request for additional information.
