Mike, By letter dated October 30, 2009, (Agencywide Documents Access & Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML093030358), Omaha Public Power District (the licensee), requested relief from certain American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME Code),Section XI requirements. The request pertains to the use of an alternative to the dissimilar metal weld examination depth-sizing requirements from the ASME Code,Section XI at Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1. The request was submitted for the fourth 10-year in-service inspection interval.

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has determined that the following additional information is needed to complete the evaluation. In order for the NRC staff to complete its review on the schedule requested, we request that you submit your response within 30 days. If circumstances result in the need to revise the requested response date or if you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 415-1377 or via e-mail at Lynnea.Wilkins@nrc.gov.

Sincerely, Lynnea Wilkins, Project Manager Plant Licensing Branch IV Division of Operating Reactor Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Phone: 301-415-1377 301-415-1222(fax)

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Please provide the following information.

1. The beginning and end dates for the Fourth Inservice Inspection interval.
2. The component materials for each weld.
3. The Code item numbers for each weld.

In addition, please modify Section 3.0, Proposed Alternative and Basis for Use, so that is clear that you are requesting relief due to impracticality pursuant to title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations 50.55a(g)(6)(i) rather than as an alternative that provides acceptable levels of quality and safety.
