READ TO OPERATOR DIRECTION TO TRAINEE:

I will explain the initial conditions, and state the task to be performed. All control room steps shall be performed for this JPM, including any required communications. I will provide initiating cues and reports on other actions when directed by you. Ensure you indicate to me when you understand your assigned task. To indicate that you have completed your assigned task return the handout sheet I provided you.

INITIAL CONDITIONS:

  • Unit 1 is at 100% power.
  • VCT automatic makeup is out of service for calibration by IAE INITIATING CUE:

The Control Room Supervisor (CRS) directs you to perform a manual blended makeup to increase VCT level to 58% per OP/1/A/6150/009, Boron Concentration Control, Enclosure 4.5 beginning at step 2.2.

Peer checks are waived for this JPM.

JPM08 A Page 4 of 9

START TIME:

Step 2.2 Determine the volume of makeup desired. Critical Step Total desired makeup: gal

_SAT STANDARD: Based on existing VCT level and final required VCT level, operator performs the following using the OAC Databook curve _UNSAT or calculation.

OAC Calculation is made by inserting the Initial and Final levels in Percent then subtract the gallons at each level to determine the batch volume required. For 30% (1127 gal) - 58% (1664 gal) this should be approximately 537 gallons.

OAC CURVE: Acceptable range is 500 to 600 gallons COMMENTS:

Note: The RMWST boron concentration has an insignificant effect on the calculation at higher outlet concentrations. The RMWST boron concentration term may be considered "0" when the desired concentration is greater than 100 ppm.

Step 2.3 IF blended makeup is desired, calculate the amount of boric acid to be Critical Step added as follows (A.M.):

_SAT Boric acid gal = Vf (Cf - Cw)

(Ca - Cw) _UNSAT where Vf is the total makeup volume from Step 2.2 Cf is the desired boron concentration Cw is the RMWST boron concentration Ca is the BAT boron concentration STANDARD: 537 ( 1375 - 0) = 98.45 gallons (7500 - 0)

EXAMINER NOTE: (Acceptable range for 500 to 600 gallons of makeup 91.6 to 110 gallons)

COMMENTS:

JPM08 A Page 5 of 9

Step 2.4 IF boric acid is to be added, ensure one boric acid transfer pump is in Critical Step "ON".

_SAT STANDARD: Places boric acid pump 1A or 1B control switch to "ON" and verifies the red ON light is lit. _UNSAT COMMENTS:

Step 2.5 IF reactor makeup water is to be added, ensure one reactor makeup Critical Step water pump is in "ON".

_SAT STANDARD: Places reactor makeup 1A or 1B control switch to "ON" and verifies the red ON light is lit. _UNSAT COMMENTS:

NOTE: Normally 1NV-186A (BfA Blender Otlt To VCT Otlt) is the preferred makeup flowpath. 1NV-181A (BfA Blender Otlt To VCT) may be used to limit oxygen addition from the makeup source.

Step 2.6: Place one of the following in the "OPEN" position to align a flowpath to Critical Step the VCT. (R.M.)

_UNSAT STANDARD: Positions 1NV-186A switch to the OPEN position and verifies the red OPEN light is lit.

COMMENTS:

JPM08 A Page 6 of 9

NOTE: Steps 2.7 and 2.B may be performed concurrently, as required, to achieve the proper blend.

Step 2.7 IF reactor makeup water is to be added, perform the following: Critical Step NOTE: If blended makeup is being added, 1NV-242A (RMWST To BfA Blender - SAT Ctrl) may be manually controlled to allow proper blending of makeup.

- UNSAT 2.7.1 Operate 1NV-242A (RMWST To BfA Blender Ctrl) as required.

(R.M.)

2.7.2 Monitor the total makeup batch counter.

STANDARD: May operate the 1NV-242A switch; OPEN and CLOSED, as required while monitoring the batch counter.

COMMENTS:

Step 2.B IF boric acid is to be added, perform the following: Critical Step NOTE: If blended makeup is being added, 1NV-23BA (BfA Xfer Pmp To Blender - SAT Ctrl) may be manually controlled to allow proper blending of makeup.

- UNSAT 2.B.1 Operate 1NV-23BA (BfA Xfer Pmp To Blender Ctrl) as required.(R.M.)

2.B.2 Monitor the boric acid batch counter.

STANDARD: May operate the 1NV-23BA switch; OPEN and CLOSED, as required while monitoring the batch counter.

COMMENTS:

Step 2.9 WHEN the desired volume(s) as determined in Step 2.2 AND IF Critical Step applicable, Step 2.3 is(are) reached on the total makeup batch counter andfor the boric acid batch counter, ensure the following valves are - SAT closed to secure manual makeup (R.M.):

- UNSAT

STANDARD: When the batch counters reach the amount determined in steps 2.2 and 2.3, the operator ensures that 1NV-242A and 1NV-23BA are closed.

COMMENTS:

JPMOB A Page 7 of 9

Step 2.10 Close the valve opened in Step 2.6

- SAT

  • 1NV-186A (B/A Blender Otlt To VCT Otlt) - UNSAT STANDARD: Operator selects CLOSE for 1NV-186A and verifies the green CLOSE light is lit.

COMMENTS:

Step 2.11 IF NOT required for current plant conditions, place pump (s) started in Step 2.4 and/or 2.5 in "OFF". - SAT STANDARD: Per the cue, places the pumps switches started in steps 2.4 and - UNSAT 2.5 to OFF and verify the green OFF lights are lit.

EXAMINERS CUE: The Control Room Supervisor directs you to place the pumps switches to off while IAE continues to calibrate the makeup system.

COMMENTS:

NOTE: If additional boric acid additions will be performed over the course of the shift, flushing the makeup line is NOT recommended.

Step 2.12 IF boric acid only was added AND it is desired, flush the makeup line as follows: - SAT STANDARD: Step does not apply and continues. - UNSAT COMMENTS:

Step 2.13 IF automatic makeup is desired, perform one of the following:

- SAT EXAMINER CUE: Another operator will align the makeup system when calibration is complete. - UNSAT COMMENTS:

This JPM is complete.

Step 3 Throttle YO flow to 1A NV Pump as follows: (Ladder needed)

SAT

  • Unlock and throttle 1KC-A52 (1A NV Pump Motor Cooler Outlet -

Throttle) (AB-551, HH-56, Rm 200) to obtain 30-35 gpm on 1KCPG8280 "1A NV Pump Motor Cooler KC Flow" (AB-548, - UNSAT HH,55-56, Rm 200).

STANDARD: Locates flow gauge 1KCPG8280 (Next to 1A NV Pump entrance door),

EXAMINER CUE: Flow is reading 34 gpm.

EXAMINER NOTE: Examinee should realize this value is within range, and no adjustment is necessary at this time.

COMMENTS Step 3 Throttle YO to 1A NV Pump as follows: (Ladder needed)

  • Unlock and throttle 1KC-A58 (1A NV Pump Oil Coolers Outlet - SAT Throttle) (AB-551, JJ-56, Rm 200) to obtain 32-35 gpm on 1KCPS8330 "1 A NV Pump Oil Coolers KC Flow" (AB-543, - UNSAT HH,55-56, Rm 200).

STANDARD: Locates flow gauge 1KCPS8330 (Next to 1A NV Pump entrance door),

EXAMINER CUE:: Flow is reading 25 gpm.

EXAMINER NOTE: Examinee should realize that this value is below the

. acceptable range, and an adjustment range, and an adjustment in flow is needed.

EXAMINER NOTE: When examinee describes increasing flow to 32-35 gpm by rotating 1KC-A58 counterclockwise using wrench or valve handle provide the next cue.

EXAMINER CUE Flow reads 35 gpm on 1KCPS8330 COMMENTS JPM08 K Page 6 of 8

Step 4. Notify Control Room Supervisor of the following ...

  • Status _SAT
  • Enter 1A NV pump in TSAIL

_UNSAT STANDARD: Contacts CRS and reports status.

EXAMINER CUE: "This is Brian Miller. I understand ... " (Repeat back what student reports).

COMMENTS:

Step 5. Notify Radwaste Chemistry (Ext. 5558) of YD flow to ND/NS sump.

_SAT STANDARD: Contacts Radwaste.

_UNSAT EXAMINER CUE: "This is Greg Lancaster. I understand ... " (Repeat back what student reports).

COMMENTS:

NOTE The following step is to reduce YD drainage to the ND/NS sump and thereby minimize radwaste. _SAT
