PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT UNIT 2 - CLOSURE OF CONFIRMATORY ACTION LETTER NRR-07-024 (TAC NO. MD9766)
Dear Mr. Wadley:
On March 27,2007, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Confirmatory Action Letter (CAL) Number NRR-07-024 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML070800476) regarding dissimilar metal welds in the pressurizer at Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant (PINGP), Unit 2. This letter acknowledqes receipt of your letter dated October 21, 2008 (ADAMS Accession No. ML083080007), informing the NRC of actions taken in response to this CAL.
In your October 21,2008, letter, you stated that all commitments related to CAL NRR-07-024 have been closed at PINGP, Unit 2. This included mitigation of the Alloy 82/182 pressurizer butt welds by the application of a full structural weld overlay. Your letter dated October 16, 2008 (ADAMS Accession No. ML082900808), provided a summary of the stress analysis and ultrasonic examinations of the weld overlay.
Based on your letters, the NRC has found that all the commitments listed in the CAL and supporting March 14,2007, commitment letter (ADAMS Accession No. ML070740366) have been met. No further response is required regarding the CAL. We consider the CAL closed.
As such, it is no longer necessary to implement enhanced inspection and leakage monitoring requirements for the reactor coolant system at PINGP, Unit 2. Technical Assignment Control (TAC) No. MD9766 will be closed.
Thank you for informing us of the actions documented in your letter. These actions may be examined during a future NRC inspection of your facility.
