RENEWAL OF THE FULL-POWER OPERATING LICENSE FOR THE OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff is informing the Commission that it has completed the operating license renewal for the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station (OCNGS) and will issue the license on April 8, 2009.
By letter dated July 22, 2005, Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon), formerly AmerGen Energy Company, LLC, submitted an application to renew the operating license for OCNGS.
The staff reviewed the license renewal application in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), Part 51, Environmental Protection Regulations for Domestic Licensing and Related Regulatory Functions, and 10 CFR Part 54, Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants.
Region I performed inspections, as documented in a May 1, 2007, memorandum (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML071220102) and a January 21, 2009, letter (ADAMS Accession No. ML090210106). The staff documented the results of its environmental review in a supplemental environmental impact statement, published as NUREG-1437, Supplement 28, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, Supplement 28, Regarding Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station, issued in January 2007. The staff also documented the results of its safety review in NUREG-1875, Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of the Oyster Creek Generating Station, issued in April 2007 and supplemented in September 2008.

The Commissioners In accordance with 10 CFR 54.25, Report of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards, the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) reviewed the license renewal application for OCNGS. The ACRS completed its review during its 539th meeting, held on February 1, 2007. The ACRS recommended renewal of the operating license in a letter to the Commission dated February 7, 2007.
