SUBJECT:

WATERFORD STEAM ELECTRIC STATION, UNIT 3 - REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE REVISED EMERGENCY CORE COOLING SYSTEM PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS SUPPORTING THE NEXT GENERATION FUEL (TAC NO. MD6363)

Dear Mr. Walsh:

By letter dated August 9, 2007, Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy), submitted an application requesting a review of the Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3 (Waterford 3) revised Emergency Core Cooling System Performance Analysis that supports the implementation of Combustion Engineering 16x16 Next Generation Fuel described in WCAP-16500.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has reviewed your submittal and has determined that the following additional information is needed to complete the review:

Please provide a statement that Entergy and its small-and large-break loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) analyses vendor have ongoing processes that assure that the input values of Waterford 3 LOCA analyses conservatively bound the values of those parameters for the as-operated Waterford 3 plant.

We discussed the need for additional information with your staff by telephone and they agreed to provide a response within two weeks of the receipt of the formal request for additional information.

If you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 415-1480.

Sincerely,

/RA/
