Dear Senator Corzine:

I would like to personally invite you and other members of your organization to attend a public meeting between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG). The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at the Bridgeport Holiday Inn, One Pureland Drive (Interstate 295 at Exit 10), Swedesboro, NJ.

The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the NRCs assessment of safety performance at the Salem and Hope Creek Generating Stations for calendar year 2004 and to review PSEG actions to improve performance in the following areas:

Safety conscious work environment; Problem identification and resolution; Procedure adherence and other elements of human performance; and Quality of engineering products particularly as they relate to evaluation of degraded equipment and associated operational decision making.

The meeting is open to the public for observation. Following the presentation, the NRC staff will be available to accept comments and questions from you and members of the public. Enclosed is the meeting notice for your reference.

The NRC recently completed its annual assessment of the safety performance of these stations in accordance with the NRC Reactor Oversight Process (ROP). You can become familiar with the ROP and the information we used in our annual assessment through the NRC Web site at:
