SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF THE APRIL 19, 2005, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE BYRON END-OF-CYCLE PLANT PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On April 19, 2005, a public meeting was held at the Byron Forest Preserve, 7993 North River Road, Byron, IL 61010. The meeting was between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Byron Station management and staff. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss NRCs assessment of the Byron Stations performance for the period of January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004. In addition, Mr. Steve Kuczynski, the Site Vice-President, gave a brief presentation.

During the NRC presentation, an overall assessment of Byron Stations performance was provided. As explained in the Annual Assessment letter from NRC to Mr. Christopher M. Crane, dated March 2, 2005, (reference ADAMS accession number ML050620333), the Byron Station Units 1 and 2 operated in a manner that preserved public health and safety and fully met all cornerstone objectives.

During the licensees presentation, Mr. S. Kuczynski, discussed Byron Accomplishments in 2004, Performance Issues, Top Priorities for 2005, and Key Events for 2005.

The meeting notice, NRC presentation, and licensee presentation can be found in ADAMS as ML050900213, ML051260278, and ML051260270 respectively. A list of NRC and licensee meeting participants can be found in the attached Enclosure.

Before adjourning the meeting, the NRC provided the opportunity for members of the public to ask questions. One member of the public posed questions and concerns about Byron performance to the NRC. The NRC responded during the meeting and met with the individual after the meeting. The NRC was also interviewed by two local television news organizations and one local newspaper reporter.
