OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION - TRANSMITTAL OF VERSION 6.71 OF SAPHIRE COMPUTER CODE (TAC NO. MA7450)
Dear Mr. Kingsley:
Enclosed are two compact disks (Enclosure 1) containing Version 6.71 of the SAPHIRE (System Analysis Programs for Hands-on Integrated Reliability Evaluations) code and a SAPHIRE version of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) database, that GPU Nuclear, Inc. (the previous licensee) gave the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to be included in its SAPHIRE Library of PRA models in support of risk-informed regulatory activities (GPU Nuclear Corporation, et al., Oyster Creek Probabilistic Risk Assessment (Level 1), November 1991). Enclosure 2 is a hard copy of a letter report pertaining to this database, dated March 20, 1995. The NRC has been using SAPHIRE code and plant-specific PRA models to address a variety of issues, such as the resolution of generic issues, the development of guidance for risk-informed regulation, and the investigation of what if questions.
The Oyster Creek PRA database went through an Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) in-house review. However, because it may be out of date, it should be used with caution and in accordance with any statements that may be displayed upon opening, and with cautions and directions provided in the database letter report included in the disk. Questions about the SAPHIRE model and software should be directed to Ms. Erasmia Lois at NRC (301-415-6560, exl1@nrc.gov) or to Mr. Michael Calley, INEEL (208-526-9230, mbc2@inel.gov).
